Project description

As part of the scope of renovation, it is proposed to construct a new stair lift within the north exit stair between the ground floor and the 1st floor level. Additionally, a new ramp will also be constructed within the corridor of the ground floor level. Exit stairs are required to be designed with widths in accordance with OBC Article 3.4.3.2. and any reductions to exit width are required to conform to the provisions identified under OBC Article 3.4.3.4. Additionally, an unsprinklered building is required to be provided with a protected barrier-free path of travel in accordance with OBC Sentence 3.3.1.7.(1). It has been requested to address the exit width conditions when the stair lift is in operation (i.e. with reduced stair width) and to address the protection of a floor area provided with a new barrier-free path of travel.This alternative solution is intended to demonstrate how the proposed stair lift will maintain an equivalent level of performance as required by the Objectives and Functional Statements associated with OBC Article 3.4.3.4. and OBC Sentence 3.3.1.7.(1).
