Alternative solution see for building permit 20-117552The windows located on the north and west exterior walls of the heritage house require protection due to exposure conditions to the property line and to the unenclosed exit stair serving the heritage building. Renovations are proposed for the heritage house, however the existing window assemblies will be retained to maintain the exterior facade of the heritage building. To achieve the required exposure protection, window sprinklers are proposed to be provided for the window assemblies stated above.The Tyco window sprinklers proposed to be used are in compliance with the requirements of OBC 3.1.8.18. and the sprinkler listing, with the exception that the existing windows have combustible (wood) framing. This Alternative Solution is developed to address this deviation from the listed window sprinkler application.In ARENCON Inc.¿s professional opinion, the proposed protection method utilizing window sprinklers for window assemblies with combustible framing, will achieve the same level of performance as intended per OBC 3.1.8.18., and will achieve the exposure protection objectives for the exterior windows.
