Alternative Solution to the change of use and renovations proposed within a unit on the Second Floor of the building; This Alternative Solution Proposal has been prepared to address the 15 min fire-resistance rating deficiency specific to providing a minimum of 1 h fire-resistance rating for the floor/ceiling assembly that separates the restaurant from the space below based on the separation between major occupancies (Group A2 and Group F2) requirements of OBC Article 3.1.3.1. and OBC Table 10.3.2.2.B. applicable to sprinklered buildings. Since upgrading the existing ceiling/floor assembly to achieve the required rating is deemed difficult, the proposed alternative compliance approach will be based on enhancing the performance of the sprinkler system through replacement of existing sprinklers protecting the space below the restaurant with new quick response sprinklers.
