Project description

Alternative Solution, The Ontario Line is a 15.6-kilometre stand-alone rapid transit ine that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition/Ontario Place. Fifteen stations are proposed, with numerous connections to the broader transit network, including GO Transit rai services, the Toronto Transit Commission's subway Lines 1 and 2, the future Line 5 (Eglinton Crosstown LRT), as well as numerous bus and streetcar routes. The Ontario Line - Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (Project) is part of the Ontario line. The steel truss enclosure of an escalator in a rapid transit station is required to be sprinklered in accordance with OBC Sentence 3.13.5.10.(2), which states:"In addition to the requirements of Subsection 3.13.3., the steel truss enclosure of an escalator shall be sprinklered"When the proposed design differs from the acceptable solutions of the OBC, compliance is permitted to be achieved by using alternative solutions that will reach the level of performance required by the applicable acceptable solutions, as permitted by OBC division A, Clause 1.2.1.1.(1)(b). OBC provides specific Objective and Functional statements relative to complying with the Sentence 3.13.5.10.(2) of the Code.An alternative solution approach to building code compliance is proposed relative to the 2012 Ontario Building Code for the Sentence 3.13.5.10.(2), which related to the provision of sprinklers for the steel truss enclosure of an escalator in all rapid transit stations forming part of the new Ontario Line - Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel Project.
