PROPOSED ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION - ISSUE 1 In lieu of a parapet, two layers of 15.9 mm (5/8 in.) Type X gypsum board will be installed at the second-floor ceiling below the attic space, providing approximately 1 hours of fire-resistance. This enhanced fire-rated ceiling will significantly restrict fire spread into the attic and across the roof plane, achieving the intent of the Code.PROPOSED ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION - ISSUE 2 To maintain the intent of a non-combustible fire separation, a continuous layer of 15.9 mm (5/8 in.) Type X gypsum board will be installed over the party wall at all floor levels. In addition, all floor assemblies will be constructed as 2-hour fire-rated assemblies in accordance with M503. These measures provide equivalent fire performance by protecting the embedded wood joists and limiting fire spread through the party wall.
